I have spent our time away reading through Decembers cookbook of the month, Sift by Nicola Lamb. This is an absolutely brilliant book. There is so much excellent advice and learning in it for baking including the role each ingredient play and, what will go wrong when the quantities are not right.  I am usually quite a good baker but I have had a few total disasters and now, reading Sift, so much now makes sense. If you like baking, this has to be a book you buy and read cover to cover, it can only improve your baking.  I have learnt so much from it.
