This months cookery book club book is proving controversial. It is the Indian inspired book, Kricket by Will Bowlby. The controversy boils down to errors in the book of spice quantities. For me this is not such a big thing because I cook a lot and so when calling for 50g of salt I immediately think hold on that sounds wrong and so immediately I would change it but not everybody is as experienced and some dishes have been ruined. Also, a few people are using the exact measurements even if it sounds wrong and so not everything is going well. It is a shame because the book is beautiful and you wonder who proof read it.
Today we made black stone flower lamb chops with burnt onion raita and Jersey royal aloo chaat. To make these two dishes I needed to make five additional recipes so it was not a quick meal by any stretch of the imagination. It was however really really delicious and I will be cooking from it a lot going forwards. The book is beautiful, it looks stylish, the pictures are fantastic, the recipes lovely. If you do get it just remember this, if any of the seasonings and spices don’t sound or look right, it probably is not. The recipes that are wrong seem to have 10 times the amount of what is actually needed.
