It is Monday and we must get back into meat free Monday. Today we decided to make gnocchi with a puttanesca sauce. Gnocchi is so comforting and I love the rich, deep strong flavours, heady with garlic, slightly spicy with chilli, salty from the capers and olives. It is just wonderful. I know the original has anchovies in it (and don’t get me wrong, they are delicious in this sauce) but we wanted to keep it meat free and so chose not to put it in, instead adding a tbsp of tomato puree and a few extra olives. However untraditional, it worked out really well and tasted divine. It was especially good with the soft gorgeous pillowy gnocchi. It is quite a simple easy dish and what I loved is I finished work, went into the kitchen for 20 minutes, put it in the oven while I got changed and got a drink and then when I was ready to eat, so was it. A great midweek meal.
